What we do

We design a handful of safaris each year. Every itinerary is put together by hand rather than pulled off a shelf, which means the pace, the lodges and the time spent in each park are chosen for the trip in question.

Our journeys lean towards wildlife and the people working to protect it. Where we can, we build in time with conservationists on the ground - researchers, rangers, guides and community projects - so that a safari is a chance to understand a place as well as to see it.

Where we travel

  • Kenya - the Mara, Amboseli beneath Kilimanjaro, and the arid north around Samburu.
  • Tanzania - the Serengeti, the Ngorongoro Crater and the quieter southern parks.
  • Uganda - mountain gorillas in Bwindi, chimpanzees, and the Nile at Murchison Falls.
  • Rwanda - the Virungas, golden monkeys, and the savannah of Akagera.
  • Madagascar - lemurs and the endemic forests found nowhere else on earth.

Who runs it

Moonlion is led by Rupi Mangat, a third-generation Kenyan and travel writer who has been covering East Africa’s wild places since 1998. She plans each safari personally and travels with most of them.

If you’d like to talk through an idea - a set of dates, a species you’ve always wanted to see, or a trip built from scratch - browse the safaris or get in touch.

Travel with Rupi.

A handful of bespoke safaris each year, curated personally - from first sketch to the people saving the species you came to see.
